Homeschool and Sports

These regulations apply to Garrett County, Maryland. If you homeschool or are thinking of homeschooling in some other area, your regulations may be different. However, browsing through these may give you a starting point of things to look for in your area.

Families contemplating beginning homeschool often ask this one question; “Can my child still play sports with the public school?” While many communities around the country do allow students to play sports in the public school if they are homeschooled, unfortunately, Garrett County does NOT. However, this does not preclude homeschoolers from participating in private sports leagues.

Additionally, the option does exist to enroll your child in a private school, such as Calvary Christian Academy as an overseer to your homeschool instruction. Calvary does participate in sports, and it does allow local homeschooling students to be on its sports teams. There is a branch of Calvary located at Cherry Glade Mennonite Church in Accident. But students may need to travel to Cresaptown for practices and games.
